Enhanced access to the island is essential. New pedestrian and bicycle bridges will link the island with the surrounding areas of Prague 1, Karlin, Zizkov, Letna and Holesovice. A new tram stop will provide access to the cultural quarter at the western edge of the island, featuring a botanical garden and a new multi-functional sports centre for ice hockey and tennis. The upgraded railway line and proposed station will further link the island with the city centre and the airport, providing an economic driver for the development of the commercial quarter at the eastern edge, accommodating offices, hotels and housing.

A podium level at ca. +10m is proposed above the flood risk level. Car parking and servicing will be located below. The podium acts as an active promenade, with cafes, restaurants, shops and galleries. This central ‘spine’ will accommodate a range of pedestrian footfall, providing impressive views out over the Vltava River and beyond. A river walk and cycle path will provide views over the adjacent landscaped areas accommodating leisure and sports activities.

The varied building heights correspond to key transport hubs, gradually building in scale towards a new Prague spire, a tower with a public viewing platform with outstanding views towards Prague’s historic castle.
